West Somerset Railway

The West Somerset Railway is Britain's longest 'heritage' railway running from Bishops Lydeard to the coast at Minehead.

The day out with the transport of yesteryear theme is extended by the link with the West Somerset Railway at Bishops Lydeard Station. Running for nearly twenty miles the WSR is Britain's longest "heritage" line and takes its passengers for a leisurely journey by steam or vintage diesel train through the heart of the Quantock Hills and along the Bristol Channel Coast.

There are nine restored stations en route serving a variety of destinations. These include Stogumber with its Bee World Animal Centre, the historic port of Watchet, Washford with its Abbey and picturesque Dunster with its castle. At Minehead the train stops in the town centre, adjacent to the beach and a short walk form the quiet town on North Hill.
